At the beginning of the book describes the historical and social background of the development of a network of religious centres of Moscow as the clerical capital of Russia. Essays on real historical figures, canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church to the saints (canonized) and associated with the life of churches in Moscow, preceded by the story of the main Orthodox monasteries, cathedrals, churches, chapels of Moscow. Orthodox centers, especially many, they are grouped according to administrative-territorial principle of administrative districts of Moscow. Then follow the stories of other religious centers in their confessional: old believers, Catholic, Protestant and other, then Muslim, then Jewish, that is, in the main traditional for our city religious beliefs.
Active religious centers in Moscow now a lot, I would like to tell you about each of them, but this book is not an encyclopedia and not an encyclopedic reference, its scope does not allow to Express the tremendous amount of information about the religious centers of Moscow. That's why we have to give up a lot. I had to choose only the most vivid and interesting, in our opinion, and religious centers. The criteria for selection were: a) long, full of instructive history; b) the relationship with the earthly life of bright personalities, especially those who were canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church; C) the presence of religious shrines - the relics of the revered miracle-working icons, and other; g) architectural and artistic richness and originality.
The book uses information obtained from a very large number of sources, the main and most available ones are listed in references. When creating the book, the author has used his more than 38 years of experience in the architectural Department of the capital - the Committee on architecture and town-planning of Moscow.
