Plutarch, the great Greek writer, a scientist and a philosopher all his life had collected and systematized the statements of prominent personalities. The result of this work was, in particular, collections of sayings of Spartans, the Spartan women as well as kings and generals of antiquity. According to the ancient traditions, these sayings are presented in the form of historical anecdotes, the main character which reacts to a certain situation is an apt word, an aphorism or a cautionary Maxim. Installation on civic virtue and high morality makes these short stories a true textbook of life, relevant in all times and for all peoples without exception.
