Tales of the Russian Land. A. D. Nechvolodov. Full reprint
Alexander Dmitrievich Nechvolodov – a nobleman, the son of an officer. Was a soldier, scholar and writer.
After cadet school he entered the service in the guards Pavlovsky regiment. Participated in the first world war, commanding the 19th infantry division. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant General. He was awarded the order of St. George.
However, contemporaries knew Nechvolodova primarily as a scholar – historian and writer – publicist, member of the military historical society, author of "1813. Essay on events of war in the view of the commander on the letters of Napoleon", "Russian money. From ruin to prosperity", "the Emperor Nicholas II and the Jews".
"Tales of Russian Land" the most famous work Nechvolodova. Being a staunch patriot – a radical nationalist, he, in his own words, wrote this book with the aim "to enable every Russian person to study the life and deeds of their ancestors", to show "what a brave, wise people he is".
In his study the author traces the history of the Russian people "from the tribe of Japheth" to the XX century.
The "legend" came out as Scripture. So, the first part covering the period "from ancient times before the rise of Russian power under Yaroslav the Wise", was published in 1909, published in the funds of the Brotherhood at St. Nicholas Church of the 58th Prague infantry regiment.
Nicholas II, two years later, after the release of the second part, "Legends", wanted to meet the author. The audience was held in the Livadia Palace on 1 December 1911. Nikolai said then Nechvolodova that reads his book in the ears of Alexandra Fedorovna and his only wish is to see the work completed and richly illustrated.
Soon, the recommendation has been brought to life.
