Watch "Farewell of Hector with andromaha" named after a famous historical painting by A. Losenko "Farewell of Hector to Andromache" (1773, oil on canvas, 115.8х211.5. The state Tretyakov gallery, Moscow).
In 1773, Losenko started but did not finish his second historical picture — "Farewell of Hector with andromaha"; this is partly due to some sketch in a picturesque interpretation of images. Antique plot of "the Iliad" by Homer sang of heroes, their patriotism, willingness to sacrifice himself to the service of the Motherland. These educational ideals of classicism, which the artist was faithful throughout his creative life, he received vivid expression in "Vectorbeam farewell" (as he called the picture his contemporaries).
The action takes place at the city gates. Trojan hero, the son of the Trojan king Priam, Hector says goodbye before the duel with Achilles, with his faithful wife Andromache, holding a baby in her arms.
Foreseeing his death, he asks the favor of the gods, and prays that his son has grown wise, courageous, and glorious. A sense of civic duty in the soul of Hector overcomes personal feelings of attachment to the family.
