Fireplace clock "the Saracens on horseback" (jewel)
Free interpretation of Western European samples of the last quarter of the 19th century in the style of historicism. On a high base is depicted riding on the horse of the Saracens. On the sides of the clock face depicted war trophies of armor, and weapons. The Saracens, nomadic predatory Arabian tribe. In the middle of the century the name was extended to all Arabs and came to mean all Muslims. In the hot, Arabian horse -warrior , in an ancient head-dress of the Eastern Nations – a turban.
